Plane collides with cars on US freeway!

Firefighters tried to separate cars from a plane - not on the airport tarmac but on a US Highway tar road!

Times of India magazine reported that a small air plane, Piper PA-24, made an emergency landing on a freeway amidst oncoming traffic and collided with three vehicles before coming to a grinding halt! This freak accident took place in the broad day light on a Sunday morning on the southbound side of US Highway 101 near Santa Barbara airport.

The pilot informed the patrolling officials that he tried for emergency landing with the flow of traffic on the freeway for want of fuel.

Eyewitness reported that the plane’s tail hit a Chevrolet Suburban while it was still in the air, hit a Honda Accord just after landing, then was struck by a Volkswagen after it had come to rest. Even though 9 persons were involved in the accident none was hurt luckily!

It looks like that future road designers may have to plan a separate runway (for planes)too on freeways near airports!

  1. Yep, I remember this one. It happens occasionally, and thank goodness not too often. This was a very lucky landing for sure.

    Have a terrific day. :)
