At our convent school, we used to sing hymns at morning
assembly with more gusto than grace. One
day the junior classes were giving a fervent rendition of “Jesus, tender shepherd, hear me…” finishing
with “Take me, when I die to heaven / Happy there with thee to dwell.” The nun taking assembly sensing something
amiss asked one little girl to repeat the last line. Sure enough, she and her classmates were
chanting “Happy there from three to twelve.”

That's what she heard and so it's true. Kids hear what they hear and couple that with what they know. Makes perfect sense to me.
