World wonders!

Pisa Tower in Italy is one of the wonders of the world.  You may be surprised to know that the Tower was constructed without conducting any test on the quality and suitability of the soil.  The foundation was made without checking the fundamental aspects construction.  As a consequence the building started leaning towards one side.  When the second floor was in progress, during the World War II, the construction was suspended for a short while.  Later it was resumed and the third floor was completed.  Thus the Pisa Tower remains as a living example of poor construction even today still occupying  a prestigious place as a world wonder.

In India, in the sleepy town of Tanjavur, the famous King Raja Raja Chola, constructed the Bruhadeeswara temple with a tall Gopuram (canopy) in the 12th century.  The height of the Gopuram is 216 feet, the tallest even today.  The Gopuram was carved out of a single rock stone weighing 80 tons and it took 12 years to complete the construction. The temple has been there for more than 1000 years, still going strong.  Made in an era when there was not much of technological expertise in India, the amazing temple does not find a place in the wonders of world.
