HAPPY PONGAL!

TO-DAY IS PONGAL DAY IN TAMILNADU.  HAPPY  PONGAL TO ALL MY FELLOW BLOGGERS AND FRIENDS!

Pongal is a four-day harvest festival celebrated by the Tamil community in India. The festival begins from January 13 and extends up to January 16. The word Pongal means ‘overflowing’ which portrays wealth and prosperity. People of Tamilnadu, India, worship their Sun God on this festival and boil milk and let it overflow marking the festival. They decorate their house with mango and banana leaves on this day. They also draw kolams (curved art work made with rice flour using fingers)in front of their houses. The pot in which the milk is boiled is also decorated similarly. North Indians celebrate the same day as Makar Sankranti and a day before is celebrated as Lohri.
